2008 Award Ceremony

Scholarship Chicago proudly presented its 13th Annual Awards Ceremony on June 24th at the Harold Washington Library where a full audience celebrated the accomplishments of our college graduates as they returned to Chicago to begin their careers and our rising college freshman as they prepare to leave for campus.  We were honored to have CEO of Chicago Public Schools, Arne Duncan and Sr. M. Paul McCaughey, O.P., Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago, join us to present the Scholarship Chicago high school counselor awards to three outstanding recipients:

Araceli Gomez, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School

Lara Hightower, Sullivan High School

Lisa McDonald, Spry Community LINKS High School

The Awards Ceremony was hosted by Nadine Lacombe and Lane Vanderslice.  Together they presented more than 75 scholars who walked the stage to receive their awards.  Nicole Commodore, a 2008 graduate from Virginia University shared her experiences of building a new network of family and friends while traveling the world in college, and De’rell Bonner, a CPS graduate reflected on his journey which will soon include his trip to join the freshman class at Howard University. A special “College Survival Guide” closing video offered up a light-hearted look at the best survival techniques of our board members and partners.
