Tim Schwertfeger has been the driving force behind a new era at Nuveen Investments, propelling the 103-year-old, Chicago-based firm toward becoming a premier investment management company. Since becoming Chairman and CEO in 1996, he has led a dramatic expansion of assets, interests and expertise, adding a rapidly growing managed account business and an array of equity-based products to the company’s rich heritage of fixed-income investments. He also is at the forefront of Nuveen’s educational and community service efforts.

In 1996, he founded The Chicago Scholars Foundation, which each year awards $1,000 scholarships to a college-bound senior from every Chicago high school. He is Chairman of College Summit Chicago.

Mr. Schwertfeger is a member of the Board of Directors of Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Field Museum. He also serves on the Civic Committee of the Commercial Club of Chicago, the Board of Trustees of the Chicago Public Education Fund, Chicago United, Leadership for Quality Education, the Governing Board of the Illinois Council on Economic Education, the CEO Advisory Council of the Associated Colleges of Illinois, and the Business Advisory Board for the Chicago Public Schools Finance Academies. He holds a B.A. degree in economics and finance from Northwestern University and a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center. In addition, he has attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School and the Humanities Program of Stanford University. Mr. Schwertfeger and his wife, Gail Waller, have one child and live in Chicago.
