Now Accepting Mentor Applications!!

By serving as a mentor, you can help us improve the odds for academically ambitious college bound students. To succeed, these young people need the wise counsel and guidance that a mentor provides. Mentors are the centerpiece of our 5-year College Bound Program. They help ensure that each scholar is well prepared to transition from high school to college.
Mentors help scholars and their families navigate the college application and admission process. Mentors work with their scholars to create a timeline and help them follow the Scholarship Chicago LAUNCH plan, which consists of workshops and information that support them as they apply and enroll in a "good-fit" college, file financial aid forms, and develop independent living skills, such as good study habits, budgeting, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We work closely with mentors to provide the subject matter expertise, while the mentors encourage the students and help them stay on track.
Mentors make a one-year commitment - from June 2008 through the July 2009. While the formal mentoring relationship ends once the student graduates and is on his/her way to college, many mentors maintain contact with their students while they are in college. Our 5-year program provides underserved youth with a full year of college preparatory workshops in their senior year of high school, 4-year renewable merit scholarships of $5,000 ($1,250 per year), paid summer internships, career networking and opportunities to socialize with other scholars and community leaders. In addition to working with you in their senior year of high school, students are matched with a peer mentor during their freshman year and a career mentor once they declare their major.
